Sprouts:

Do you know that the nutritional value in the sprouts is almost twice as in the seeds because of the germination of seeds. Amazing hah..Then why can’t we eat them fresh natural food. Yucky! i know that’s what kids and adults say.. But they are really tasty. First of all you need to have a determination to eat healthy, then you can eat anything… There is a known fact that most of the healthy food tastes bad and unhealthy ones good. You know the reason, they add chemicals to mask the bad taste. Now tell me is it better to eat healthy ones or unhealthy? You chose the right path….Let’s go and have the yummy sprouts….

Sprouts of green mung beans, soy, chickpeas, grains, lentils of different kinds can be eaten. You can have them in many different ways if you don’t want to eat them directly , fresh and uncooked.

  • Steam and sprinkle black ground pepper.
  • Stir-fry with other vegetables  (mung bean, alfalfa, radish, or other sprouts).
  • Blend into fruit juices (mung bean, lentil,  or grain sprouts).
  • Mix with salsa and serve as a dip.
  • Cut tomatoes, onions or spring onions, cucumber, add grated carrot , coconut and sprinkle black ground pepper and now mix sprouts and have it..
  • you can bake a  sprouted bread which you can use for a  sandwich (healthy one).

The above are some of the ways you can have as snacks/breakfast.

Breakfast Ideas..

The schools are starting so everybody might be busy doing the schedules for breakfast, lunches, etc … No you are not then start what’s the  delay…..Need ideas…I know you might. Okay let’s begin with wonderful breakfast ideas…

My kids love pancakes, waffles, muffins or just milk blah blah…are they healthy? Kids don’t like to say yes for eating so we, the parents need to make sure to bring them to the table with out actually making them to.  For that we need to work hard and I know it’s an add on to your to do list but we need to spare the time after all it’s the health that’s so precious…

so I decided to work on some healthy ideas but also kept in mind about kid’s happiness. Today I want to share with you.

I would love to have your ideas also to help out everyone here.

Remember I am not a fan of oil, salt, egg or basically I should say animal products. Trust me kids love these…They wouldn’t know that salt or oil or egg aren’t in there unless you tell them, they are soooo ….delicious.

Oatmeal: Very healthy because of it’s fiber content. There are a lot of kids with the constipation problem so I think this would be really a great asset. There are plenty of varieties you can make with it.

  1. Oat meal mixed with natural fruit flavors instead of unhealthy store bought flavored oatmeal packets. So easy to make them at home fresh…
  2. Oat meal smoothies with natural fresh fruits once again with simple ideas in few minutes.
  3. Oat meal with fresh vegetables and gravy and many more….

Banana Pancakes: Banana is good for health  because of its nutrients, helps constipation, most of all is easy with kids. Pancakes…you might be wondering what she said no bad stuff and now saying pancakes..Don’t worry i am making without egg in there and no flour.. So healthy yay..

Fruit Smoothies: Fresh fruits are the best for everyone including kids….Rich in minerals, vitamins, good bacteria…..As you all know the receipes for these are the same…I am working on these to replace yogurt and have no animal products…Will let you know as soon as something works out..

Vegetables : Every kid knows that they are rich in minerals , vitamins but no kid wants to eat it’s just because  they are kids…So here comes a parent to play their role to get their kids to eat. There are a lot of ways to cook these kid friendly..

Snacks

Kids need healthy snacks. So how do they get them if they are not eating any meat?…It’s a false impression that meat has highest protein content but did you ever try to find out the truth. It’s proven that Lentils, beans, nuts, tofu,seeds ,leafy vegetables and many more are rich in protein,minerals, vitamins,etc..You got it right ..we have quite a lot of  options for protein rich food….Now why would you go for meat… Am i right? Ok cool let’s see what can we make for school or home so kids won’t complain…..

Nuts:

  •      First of all my favourite one is evening snack with nuts. There are a lot of nuts available but you need to know how to give them and how much to give since you know that they have essential fatty acids, mineral, vitamins, protein etc..
  • Peanuts…soaked  (5)                                                                                                               Almonds..soaked  (4)                                                                                                             Sesame seeds…soaked (1 teaspoonful)….                                                                        Seperately for atleast 6-8 hrs..
  • Cashews (3), Raisins (6), Dates (2), Figs (1), Pumpkin seeds (1 teaspoonful), sunflower seeds (1 teaspoonful).
  • Walnuts (4 to 6)
  • Pistachio (5)

Baked Veggies: Most of the veggies have almost the same procedure so you can use for your favourite veggies.

Cut the veggies into desirable shapes , edible sizes or however your kids want to. Put them in a salad bowl and mix with fresh milk cream (approx 1/4 teaspoonful for 1 cup of veggies) or sprinkle or brush them with oil (1/4 teaspoonful). Sprinkle some grounded black pepper for taste and spread them on baking sheet lined  with parchment paper and bake them. ( i used 375F for 15 to 20 min depending on they type of veggies).                                                                                                                                                                                                  Serve them with home made ranch ( i shared the receipe in my “DIPS” post). Kids will love them and trust me they will ask them to make them every day.

There is one more way to have veggies for the kids who love spices in them but no salt.

For example: 

Cauliflower 65

serving 2/prep time 12min/cook time 15-20 min

Ingredients:
cauliflower: 2 cup (florets)
pepper:1/4 teaspoon
cayenne pepper:1/3 teaspoon
ketch-up:1 teaspoon
Nando's peri-peri medium sauce:1 and 1/2 tsp-2 tsp (depending on your
                                spice levels)
cumin powder:1/2 teaspoon
garlic:1 clove (crushed)
Dill: a pinch for taste
Oregano: a pinch for taste
Cream: preferably fresh milk cream        
           1 teaspoon or ¼ teaspoon oil
Flour: 1-2 teaspoons
Tapioca starch:1/3 teaspoon
Flax seed powder: 1 tablespoon as egg Substitute
Bread crumbs: upto 2 teaspoonsful

Directions:
Take 2 cups of fresh cauliflower florets into a Ziploc bag. Add 
cream,black pepper, cayenne pepper. zip the bag and rub in between 
both palms to mix them properly.
Keep it aside for 2 min and add the remaining ingredients and rub in
between both palms to mix and leave aside for 5 minutes for 
marination.
Spread them on the baking sheet and bake them at 375F for 15 to 
20 min until they are golden brown or cooked.
Serve them with the favorite ranch or ketch up..

OIL…And the rest…

Wondering what oil can do or already you know about it and trying to ignore it. Looks like you do need my help in following a healthy diet. I am all yours. Want to know about oil? I know you might have read a lot already on line, books etc….

Did we have oil when our ancestors learned to cook? No right..Then why did we bring oil into cooking. It’s the TASTE which made us.

Okay does the taste cause any harm to our body? No then what’s causing it. It’s the added ingredients to food that brings in harm.

Did we have all these tastes right from the birth? When we were babies, our parents introduced us to bland foods in the beginning  which were so hard for us to have because it’s new to our taste buds. Then they introuduced us to all different spices , salt, oil in the  food. Did our tastebuds ask for it? No..When did all the health problems start… You are right..its after we had so called “tasty” food. When we were eating bland food , did we smell bad, like bad breadth, passing out smelly gas….

SO, what did you understand from all this. It’s the food mixed with all different tastes which brought all bad smell, toxins into our body. You are getting there…

But what is the use if we can’t even eat the food we like… That’s crazy…Forget about getting sick, I am going to eat what i want….This is exactly what’s going on in your mind. I know… Did you ever think about how  you are going to be  if you are enjoying your favourite foods and being sick all the time….This doesn’t mean that we cannot enjoy the food we like right… So what do we need to do enjoy our favourite food and be healthy at the same time…

It is easy..We need to work on removing the toxins first. How do we do it…There are so many types of detoxification treatments out there…But are they really worth  spending that much money when we can do it very simply in our house with simple techniques ( i will post them in my future posts), fresh fruits and vegetables…It might be difficulty  to adjust in the beginning but think  are you going to gain or  are you going to lose …..You are right.. When we know there is nothing to lose why don’t we give it a try….It’s not that difficult once you get used it….And i can help you to begin and  stay on it….

TASTE

Tastes are different types like salty,bitter,sweet,sour,spicy….list goes on. All these are because of tastebuds in your mouth. You know the life span of a tastebud is approx only 4days. So whatever you give the new one that will be fine with it.

The most dangerous/cunning part of body is tongue. You know why because its the one who demands all the tastes. It tricks you for that.Did you ever hear about Tongue being sick really bad like other parts of body.

It’s astonishing that the other parts never demand for tastes but they are the ones affected suffering with long term ailments.

Okay is it too much…let me make it simple…Once the food passes the tongue your body can’t differentiate the tastes. So why do you want your body to be troubled for the little tricky tongue.

So STOP craving for “TASTES”. And see the result yourself how healthy you will be. Yes i can help you with that.
LETS see who is going to walk with me towards being “HEALTHY”.

Diet ….What is there to talk about it …You might think counting calories, watching carbs, fat, protein is called the Diet.  Actually its not you know.  It is what we eat. It doesn’t matter counting, watching calories blah blah..

Now a days everyone is watching their DIET. They want it to be healthy. Does healthy means only eating fruits, vegetables ? You are right its not. Eating the right ones is what’s going to give us proper health. Trust me I tried all different types of diets.

You know how many are out there:

  • milk diet
  • dairy free diet
  • vegan diet
  • maple syrup-lemonade diet
  • juice diet
  • Fasting
  • liquid diet
  • sugar free diet
  • carb free diet
  • protein diet   and so on…….

Did anyone think about “salt free diet”. Yes you heard correct… You might be thinking, salt is not going to do anything other than adding taste, its not harmful. why is she talking about it?

I will talk about it’s work in my future posts. Before i proceed to “SALT FREE DIET”, I want you to have  some insight about “Taste”.

SALT

 

The word “salt” scares me now. I could never imagine i would be a salt free diet follower. The people who know me would say it’s all a lie. But believe me its TRUE. I never knew that there is something called “SALT FREE DIET ” until i was sick.

There is a saying ” you would not know the value unless you loose or gain it”. Can anybody imagine that salt is the main culprit for unhealthy body.

Well can anybody imagine “salt as a harmful ingredient” ? No way right.. I know i was surprised to hear that. You will be too when you hear what i heard.

Salt Salt Salt….everyone knows this as a necessary ingredient in the foods. But does anyone that this is the main culprit causing lot of damage to human body. Salt has been in usage for long time in different ways other than as a food ingredient.

Salt.. when you hear that all you can think is only FOOD. You are thinking I am only talking about the food here. I am here to give you some insight about the salt facts. You might be laughing now, putting a face…I am serious you can’t even imagine how healthy it is to be salt free. Of course, you have to have necessary Na+ in your diet. That’s why we want to talk about healthy diet.

Ok lets see what do we know about SALT. Salt adds taste to food, protects from evil, preserves the food from deterioration.

What else… Hmmm…You know its also used to prevent bubbling after the burn. It’s also used to extract the water or liquid because of its absorbency.

Am i boring you…Aaahh sorry..I have no option. I have to talk to about its chemistry if not you wouldn’t understand why i am talking about being “SALTFREE“.
